The Technology
Research has shown that the
different states of mind are associated with specific patterns of
brainwaves, or brainwave frequencies. When you feel agitated or
anxious, are in pain, or are experiencing insomnia, your brain waves
are tall (high amplitude) and fast (high frequency) Beta waves.
When you are relaxed, your brain waves are shorter (low amplitude) and
slower (low frequency) Alpha waves. A combination of
techniques can be applied to help balance brainwaves, allowing
individuals to become better able to manage their state of mind or
emotions.
Relaxation and Guided
Imagery are skills that you will learn
as you listen to uniquely developed recordings using specialized
headphones that deliver full spectrum sound along with the guided
imagery script. Low frequency sound pulses are included in these
recordings.
Psychoeducation
is the process of teaching and learning important
information and skills that may be used to better manage psychological
distress or disorders. Psychoeducational information is embedded
within the relaxation and guided imagery scripts.
Brainwave Entrainment
is a process by which the human brain learns to match lower frequency
sound waves, effectively improving relaxation.
Vibroacoustic Technology
produces a pulsed low frequency sound that can be used to decrease
Beta wave production, pulse rate, and muscle tension. As you relax on
a sound bed or chair, specially designed speakers emit low frequency
pulses, resulting in a more relaxed cognitive, physical and emotional
state.
Cranial Electrotherapy
Stimulation (CES) is a relatively new
addition to modern medicine. It has been suggested that CES
stimulates brain tissue, causing an increased release of
neurotransmitters such as serotonin and beta endorphins. Recent
studies have also demonstrated that CES has effected greater brainwave
balance, at times within the first five minutes of treatment.
Sound For Healing Institute
uses a combination of technologies and psychological approaches to
address mental health issues through relaxation and guided imagery.
Relaxation and guided imagery have been identified in the research as
important components of treatment for several disorders and provide
the core for this program. Building on this research, Sound For
Healing Institute has designed programs using several new and
innovative technologies that work together as a unique approach for
the treatment of various mental health disorders.
Relaxation
and Guided Imagery are skills that you
will learn as you listen to uniquely developed recordings. Sets of
visualizations and interactive exercises have been developed by Dr.
Rogers to address a number of specific areas. Clients may be
interested in addressing one or more of these areas. The
visualization recordings include embedded binaural frequencies
designed to enhance relaxation and reduce anxiety. A range of styles
of relaxing background music may be added to make this a uniquely
pleasant experience. The use of Bose Quiet Comfort™ headphones
delivers full spectrum sound while eliminating outside noise.

psychological distress or disorders. Psychoeducational information is

Acoustic
Brainwave Entrainment is a process by
which the human brain follows the frequency of an acoustic signal. In
the Sound for Healing process, the acoustic signal is a binaural
beat. This beat is perceived as a low frequency pulse somewhat like
the sound of two slightly “out-of-tune” guitar or violin strings.
Binaural beat technology is particularly effective at reducing anxiety
and enhancing relaxation.
Vibroacoustic
Technology allows the client to feel low
frequency sound through a sound bed specifically designed for this
purpose. This tactile experience has been shown to decrease blood
pressure, pulse rate and muscle tension. The sound bed is comprised
of over 60 speakers specially designed by BioPulsonics to operate
synchronously with the binaural frequencies and provide a truly
relaxing and unique experience.
Cranial Electrotherapy
Stimulation (CES) is a relatively new
addition to modern medicine. CES is delivered using two ear clips and
a small low-power Alpha-Stim™ Frequency Generator. This technique
has been shown to be effective in the reduction of anxiety and
increase of attention. CES is an optional part of the Sound for
Healing process depending on the needs of the client and assessment of
the therapist.
